LIGHTHOUSE LAMP RECYCLING

Why recycle fluorescent lamps (tubes)?

Recycling prevents the release of mercury vapors into the environment.

Small amounts of mercury vapors can be released if the bulbs break and the gas is not contained.

If mercury vapors enter watersheds, it can turn into a substance called methyl-mercury, which can be ingested by fish or wildlife and passed into the food chain.

Upon proper recycling this gas is captured and contained to be disposed of properly.

Additional resources are able to be recycled as well, including the glass, metals, and phosphor powder which, if left in the landfill, are not biodegradable.

Recylcing used lamps is a great way to protect our environment and to dispose of harmful products properly!
